About the event

The Convict 100 is one of the longest-running MTB marathons in Australia; it is organised by Max Adventure, an adventure and running event company founded in 2002. Part of the route follows the historic Convict Trail, built by hand between 1826 and 1836; there is no groomed singletrack, instead there are fire trails, rock sections and rocky descents such as Blue Hill or The 8 Mile. Parts of the course cross private land and are only open on race day; trails and roads remain open to other traffic.

The race is unsupported: once riders leave St Albans they do not return until the finish, and outside assistance (other than from fellow competitors) leads to disqualification. Mandatory gear is checked, and the three aid stations offer neither cups nor gels. Riders start in waves; anyone missing the 12:45 pm cut-off at km 59.5 is redirected onto the 67 km course (2026). An MTBA licence is not required. Part of the entry fee goes to the volunteer St Albans Rural Fire Brigade, whose members provide most of the course marshals.

St Albans lies a good two hours north of Sydney; coming from Sydney, the recommended route crosses one of the free ferries near Wisemans Ferry. Camping is in paddocks around the village (no showers), and there is no mobile reception there.
