GFNY Villavicencio

About the event

GFNY Villavicencio is part of the worldwide GFNY gran fondo series, organised by Gran Fondo New York Inc. According to the rules it is a ride with individual chip timing; only the long route is a competition with age-group and overall classifications. The medium route is timed, but the times are listed alphabetically. The top 10% of each age group earn a place in the front qualifier corral at later GFNY races.

Riders must be at least 18. The official jersey is included in the entry fee and mandatory, along with a helmet, spare tube and pump or CO2 cartridge. Headphones, time-trial and triathlon bikes, tandems and e-bikes are prohibited, as are support vehicles and outside feeding. Riders start in corrals ordered by previous year's winners, qualifiers, licensed riders and age groups; the corrals close 15 minutes before the start. Entries are non-refundable and non-transferable.

The expo, pre-race group rides, start, finish and post-race celebration with joropo music take place at Parque Las Malocas. The highest point of the long route is at km 77 at 1,188 m. La Vanguardia airport is 10–15 minutes away but has no international flights: travellers fly via Bogotá (around one hour domestic flight) or drive from there in 2–3 hours by car or bus.
