New self-supported bikepacking ride from the team behind the Hunt 1000; the first edition in March 2027 covers around 1,000 km (to be confirmed) from Devonport through Tasmania’s wild west and southern ranges to Hobart. As with the Hunt 1000 it is not a race: riders travel unsupported and aim for the shared “Grand Finish” in Hobart on Saturday 20 March 2027; the full route will only be released close to the date. The field is limited and places are allocated by ballot – until the ballot opens, riders can register their interest on the website.

About the event

Hunt Tasmania is Hunt Bikepacking's new major bikepacking ride after the Hunt 1000 and Sydney to Summit and will be held for the first time in 2027, ten years after the first Hunt 1000. The series is run by Dan Hunt, who created the Hunt 1000 in 2016.

The principle is the same as for the Hunt 1000: no race, no support vehicles, no prizes. Riders are fully self-supported on a loaded bike, choose their own departure day and aim to arrive in Hobart on the shared finish day. According to the organiser, the route takes in remote tracks, wild coastline and mountain country in the west and south of the island; the exact route will only be published close to the date. Riders should expect a week or more in the saddle.
