Long-standing charity ride from Sydney to Wollongong raising funds for people living with multiple sclerosis, held since 1981; 2026 is the 45th edition. The 80 km route starts in Tempe and the 53 km route in Engadine; both run through the Royal National Park, past Stanwell Tops and over the Sea Cliff Bridge along the escarpment coast to the finish at Thomas Dalton Park in Wollongong. It is not a race – riders fundraise.

About the event
The MS Gong Ride is not a race: the timing chips on the bib are for safety only and no times are published. The organiser is MS Plus, the MS organisation for New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and the ACT. Participants raise funds; in 2026, above certain amounts they received a T-shirt, a jersey or access to a lounge in the finish area. People living with MS ride for free. Riders must be at least 12 years old on event day; 12- to 17-year-olds must stay with their guardian.
The start is a rolling start in waves with capped numbers. Anyone who sets off after the sweep bus is no longer an official participant, as rest sites, signage and marshals will already have been removed. Along the course there are rest sites, mechanics, first aid and traffic management. Some sections, especially in the Royal National Park, are hilly with tight turns. The ride goes ahead in any weather unless authorities and emergency services consider conditions unsafe.
The organiser recommends public transport to the start sites, which have no dedicated parking. Special event trains run from Fairy Meadows back to Sydney and can only be used with a separate e-ticket; Opal cards are not valid on them; bags are transported from the starts to the finish (2026).
